beyond setting specific goals ,one must have the courage , discipline and long range willpower to walk the talk .
therefore , my resolution pertains to the roots of my ability to make things happen :

This year I choose to make a HABIT of being PERSISTENT in living my life w/INTEGRITY and making a positive difference in other people's lives , by SOLVING real estate problems while doing GREAT BUSINESS .

translation :

HABIT = a behavior pattern acquired by frequent repetition;

PERSISTENCY = to go on resolutely or stubbornly in spite of difficulties ;

INTEGRITY = adherence to a code of values (i.e. discipline , hard work , honesty);ability to align your behavior w/your values;

SOLVING : focus on the solution ; the money will follow

GREAT BUSINESS = great return with zero/low risk

p.s. : when you hate doing something ( i.e. knocking on the door of the 300 pound 7 ft. tall enraged homeowner in foreclosure )remember this great line :
Successful people have the habit of doing things other people don't like to do .They don't like doing them either but their disliking is subordinated to the strength of their purpose .

I think realistic goals are important...but

I have some friends that set goals that are off the chart from what they are currently doing. In turn they never get around to take action to achieve them. If you're a NEW investor that hasn't completed ANY deals, I don't recommend setting a goal of buying 4 houses a month.

I think 'adding disciplines' is more important and you're more apt to achieve your long-term vision. For example,

If you set a goal of buying 4 houses a month, where would you begin?? What is the process? It’s overwhelming. You'll have to change what you're currently doing to get started on a system of buying houses..

Setting a few new disciplines will lead you to the same goals but it's easier (for some) to get started and not as overwhelming. If you review your goal of buying 4 houses a month every morning, it can be oppressive when you’re not moving closer to that goal and it creates more stress the longer you go without buying a house.

What if you added a Discipline of sending postcards to FSBOs one day week? What if you added a discipline of reading 1 hour a day about real estate investing? What if you talked with one realtor every week about locating houses? What if you sent out 10 letters a week to potential money partners? What if you made 5 offers a week?

If you added these disciplines to your daily, weekly and montly routine, would you be overwhelmed?? Probably not.. Would you end up buying a few houses?? I would bet on it!!

Adding disciplines becomes part of your routine and habits.. and it's a continuing process.

What disciplines can you add to your currently lifestyle??

Remember that if you add some disciplines, you will have to replace some old habits/disciplines with the new ones. This is the COST.

What will you give up in order to achieve your long-term vision?

What disciplines can you add to your daily routine? Weekly? Monthly?

Next year at this time you’ll either have REGRET or be more discipline.. Which will it be?

You're right Matt,

Discipline and a clear cut, realistic plan of action will be the key to acheiving anyone's goals.

"Realistic" is the key word here.

Thanks for posting the link to Jackie's site. I ordered the free report, but how does one become an affiliate? I find this potentially very interesting!
