A vending route was offered for sale in Chicago at an asking price of $8500 earning $18.77 a day ($6851.05 annually).

Even though the replacement cost of the vending equipment would be $3125, the locating of the machines would be $1250... I offered only $6458.33 for the route. (The first negotiating principle was I listed about 3 main reasons he was asking too much and two reasons why I was the best buyer for him because I understood his tax situation and was willing to have him transfer his machines to a trust first with me as Trustee and then have him assign the beneficial interest to my Vending Partnership ...btw, anyone recognize that technique? THEN, I used a VERY specific offer even to a penny. This level of specificity helps someone believe you've really given them a carefully formulated number and not just a low-ball offer)

He countered with a number a few hundered lower than I was willing...HOWEVER, I'm a believer that you should NEVER accept a first offer or a first counter EVEN if the terms and price are in your range.. WHY? Well, we all want to feel like winners. As if we've left no money on the table. If I jumped at it...he would think.. DAMN I countered to low...and he'd have Ill will with me for a long time.

Rather I said... "Well, that's a little more than I'm comfortable to present to my partners (Unnamed authority and good cop, bad cop strategies)... However, remember when you told me about your other side business...ticket scalping...and how you had a slew of Hanson tickets for tonight... Well, I bet if you don't have them sold by now with only 5 hours to the show...they're kinda already a loss and sunk profits to you. If you would hit me with four of those tickes...for my nieces of course...I'll be sure to present this offer favorably to the partners." (This is called grinding)

He said, We have a deal!

I took a date, NOT THE TONY I've been courting...sadly but another date...and two friends. They were $35 box seats in the B box... VERY NICE...

MmmBop all :)
