"R.E. Course...review...how it helped me..." , Sat 26 Aug 13:31 post reply

While attending two conventions in Dallas, I listened to Ron LeGrand speak on various topics and promote his training materials. I felt he was a very strong (no-nonsense)speaker and
made points about areas of the business that appealed to me.
I ordered his "Wholesale/Retail", FSBO, and Lease Options courses at a great price (relative to buying individually).

Having started my R.E. investments back in the 70's, based on things I learned from Lowry-Nickerson and Mark O. Haroldsen, I purchased income-producing properties with no money down and became an over-stressed landlord while traveling a large territory as a Sales Mgr and dealing with a troubled teenager, an alcoholic wife, and an alcoholic older child. The lessons I learned from the courses were basic in teaching the business, negotiating techniques, leveraging and managing for maximum profits, etc. Then Ron LeGrand opened my eyes to another way to compound my income flipping to rehabbers, which I haven't yet done...but will at some point, buying from For Sale By Owner (FSBO)and distressed sellers, and using Lease Options to get into properties where there is little or no equity.

I like the courses because I can listen to audio tapes as I drive or (better yet) listen to the tapes as I follow in the binders. Problem is...I have another business (buying notes) that keeps me quite active and I haven't given appropriate time to studying certain parts (like filling out the forms myself).
Always used a Realtor for that in the past. I feel that R.LG's
courses attempt to offer information on every conceivable aspect of a transaction for the student's protection. Problem is, not too many of us can remember everything in the beginning so we must be willing to practice, make mistakes, and learn from our experiences. There are probably other great courses available for similar cost that provide good information, however, I have paid for some that were virtually of little value and the telephone consultations were a joke. Best to research them prior to buying. Dealmaker talks about being a R.E. technician...I like that concept. First I need the basics so I can make some attempts, from those I learn as I go while studying also, then I add to my bag other options I might offer that will solve someone's problem. To offer only one type purchase and be angry with the seller for not being motivated is not being professional. Unless we explore, with choices, what the seller will accept we are not striving to solve a problem for them and are cheating ourselves out of a possible opportunity. I would highly recommend R.LG's courses but do not recommend their coaching program because it is far too expensive for what they provide. This board and others can offer the same at no cost.
